Three variants of the Kobo Touch were released: N905, N905B, and N905C. īattery life of the Kobo Touch is estimated to be approximately one month, assuming reading for 30 minutes a day and Wi-Fi turned off. With a 32GB microSD card that can be inserted in the side of the Kobo Touch, the number of books that can be stored rises to 30,000. The 2GB of memory was similar to what competitors offered this memory allows for the storage of approximately 1,000 books. By not including a physical keyboard like the Kindle Keyboard, and leaving only a home button on the front face of the device, Kobo was able to further shrink down the dimensions of the Touch. The Kobo Touch was introduced to compete with Amazon's Kindle and Barnes & Noble's Nook. Like the original Kobo model, the Touch is manufactured in Taiwan. The back of every Kobo device features a quilted pattern. The Kobo Touch is shipped in five colours: lilac, blue, silver, black, and white. Other improvements included an E Ink Pearl screen, a faster processor capable of smooth PDF panning, 802.11n Wi-Fi capability, and reduced size and weight. ![]() The infrared based touch interface does not require electrical conductivity, allowing for the user to interact with the device when wearing gloves. Its software is pre-loaded on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab and Research in Motion’s Blackberry Playbook, and also available for iOS, Android and Blackberry. Kobo’s not an unknown player in the e-reader game. I’m guessing the same will be true with the Kobo Touch. In the past, Kobo devices have been free of frills, with no web browser, music player or games. Otherwise, the specs are similar to the old Kobo Wi-Fi, with 1 GB of built-in storage (enough for 1,000 books), a microSD card slot for expandable storage and built-in Wi-Fi for downloading books. Gone is the bulky directional pad that occupied a chunk of the non-touch Kobo e-reader. Of course, the touch screen also reduces the need for physical buttons, and so the Kobo Touch has nothing but a single home button on the front panel. Infrared sensors around the edges of the screen detect the users’ fingers without the use of a touch-sensitive display panel, allowing for a clearer image on the screen. The Kobo Touch has a 6-inch Pearl E-Ink display, and uses the same kind of touch screen technology found in Sony’s latest Reader Touch Edition, according to The Digital Reader.
